Structured cabling is the physical network running behind your walls, floors and ceilings — the cabling that connects your switches, wireless access points, phones and workstations into a single, organised system. Done properly, it’s designed once and supports everything you add to the network afterwards, from a new starter’s desk to a full office move, without a patch-and-hope rebuild every time something changes.

Cabling Types We Install

Cat5e Reliable, cost-effective cabling for standard data and voice — still a sound choice for smaller sites or lower-density deployments.

Cat6 / Cat6a Higher bandwidth and better resistance to interference — the standard recommendation for most modern offices, particularly where PoE (Power over Ethernet) is running access points, cameras or VoIP handsets.

Fibre For longer runs, between-building links, or where bandwidth demands go beyond what copper can reliably deliver.

Structured cabling is the organised network of cables — data, voice and sometimes fibre — installed throughout a building to connect all your network devices back to a central point, such as a comms room or server cabinet. It’s designed as a system rather than a series of individual connections, which makes it easier to manage, add to, and troubleshoot.

Both are copper network cabling standards. Cat6 supports higher bandwidth and performs better in environments with more electrical interference, and is generally the better choice for PoE devices like access points and VoIP phones. Cat5e is still a reliable, lower-cost option for smaller or lower-demand sites. We’ll recommend the right one based on a site survey rather than defaulting to the most expensive option.

Cost depends on the number of outlets, cable runs and site complexity, so we quote per project rather than publishing a fixed price list.

Broadband gets a connection into the building; structured cabling is what distributes that connection — and your internal network traffic — reliably around it. Even wireless-first offices need a wired backbone to connect access points, switches and any fixed equipment, so it’s not really an either/or.
