IMPORTANT OFCOM changes to Non-Geographic Numbers coming 1st July 2015: MAKE SURE YOU ARE COMPLIANT
OFCOM regulations are changing, which will affect the way you need to advertise some of your Non-Geographic numbers.
From 1st July, OFCOM have ruled that all promotional material (both printed and online) showing an 084, 087, 09 or 118 number advertised for use by consumers, must clearly show the Service Charge, and draw the client’s attention to the Access Charge which will be set by their own telephone service provider.
What You MUST Do To Comply:
If you have any of these numbers, in order to comply with new OFCOM rules, you must ensure that your Service Charge is displayed in a prominent position, and in close proximity to the telephone number in all cases. The best wording will show both pieces of information together, in a format similar to this:
‘Calls will cost Xp per minute, plus your telephone company’s access charge.’
After the 1st July, all companies advertising these numbers will be subject to monitoring by the Advertising Standards Agency, so it is vital that you make the appropriate changes to ensure that you do not fall foul of the law.
There will be a Service Charge for each number you may have. If it sounds confusing, don’t worry, we can help; Spectrum can provide guidance about the cost of calling these number ranges, and Spectrum can provide a full cost analysis and show you how migration to 03 or geographic numbers could stabilise your incoming call costs.
