iPhone 6 Release Date, New Features, What You Need To Know!

The iPhone 6 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2014, and with the 5s now nearly a year old, rumours are flooding in of a September 9th release date!

The buzz is that the iPhone 6 will be the most radical redesign in iPhone history, a light weight super-thin device with a  2mm thick battery (approx 1mm thinner than the battery in the current iPhone 5/5s).

The thinner, lighter chassis could be made possible with the use of Liquidmetal, a material that Apple has exclusive rights to. It’s extremely strong and durable, and therefore can be used in smaller quantities to get the same level of build quality as aluminium. Apple has also recently extended its exclusive license to use Liquidmetal in its products, adding further evidence to this rumour.

Reports also claim that Apple is working on two different versions of the device with significantly larger displays. A 4.7-inch model to be released in September and whopping 5.5-inch ‘iPhablet’ to follow closely on its tail.

In addition to the bigger screen, the latest rumours and leaked images suggest that the iPhone 6 will have little or no bezels, featuring a virtually scratch free curved sapphire glass screen and most recently, a photograph hit the web of an alleged iPhone 6 chassis, and that photo seems to reveal that the iPhone 6 will have an illuminated Apple logo on the back like the one found on the back of Apple’s MacBooks, Its thought that the logo may indicate notifications such as a new email or text message.

iOS 8

One thing which isn’t so hard to work out is that the iPhone 6 will almost certainly come pre-installed with iOS 8, Apple’s latest mobile operating system which was unveiled in June which contains a raft of new features expected to be put to good use in the next iPhone. Current iPhone users will be able to update their software to run the new system from the autumn.

Through iOS 8, users will be able to monitor their health and fitness through new framework HealthKit, which aggregates numerous healthcare and fitness apps, such as blood pressure and heart rate monitors through partners including Nike, and allows them to communicate with each other.

Additionally, you’ll be able to control home appliances and other connected devices through HomeKit, Apple’s connected home framework. . In a similar vein to HealthKit, it will streamline your smart devices to control them in one place. One method of control will be via Siri – for example, you could tell Siri you were “going to bed”, “going to bed” and it could dim the lights, lock your doors, close the garage door and set the thermostat.

With the introduction of both of these key features, it’s likely the iPhone 6 will take on even more of a lifestyle device role, designed to streamline our lives and make everyday tasks easier and more efficiently executed.

Camera

It’s highly likely that the iPhone 6 will have a better camera than the iPhone 5s. The iPhone 5s has an 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture, but rumour has it Apple is planning on boosting that to a 10-megapixel camera with an improved filter. Rather than adding loads of new pixels to the camera like some of its rivals, Apple is apparently going to focus its camera improvements in other areas such as image stabilisation and image enhancements.
