Smartphone will go on sale in the US through AT&T on July 26, before being made available in China and key European markets later in the quarter
Nokia has unveiled the Lumia 1020 smartphone at its ‘Zoom Reinvented’ event in New York. It comes with a 41 megapixel camera using the manufacturer’s PureView imaging technology.
The Lumia 1020, which will be available in black, white and yellow, will arrive first in the US exclusively with AT&T on July 26, priced at $299.99 (£199) on a two-year contract. It will then arrive in China and key European markets later in the quarter.
The phone, which runs the Windows Phone 8 OS and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, houses Zeiss optics with six physical lenses, plus optical image stablisation, which is designed to increase picture quality in low light conditions.
It also features dual capture, meaning the Lumia 1020 simultaneously takes a high resolution 38 megapixel image, and creates a five megapixel picture that can be shared to social networks.
Nokia has released a new imaging software development kit (SDK), which the manufacturer said provides key image editing features of the smartphone to developers.
It has also announced the new Nokia Camera Grip accessory, which the manufacturer said complements device featur4es usually reserved for standalone cameras, like the Lumia’s built-in xenon flash and mechanical shutter. It also has a tripod mount, and is expected to be available this month for $79 (£52).
Other features include a 4.5-inch AMOLED HD touchscreen made from Gorilla Glass, 1.2-megapixel HD wide angle front camera, 2,000 mAh battery with wireless charging supported by a cover, free access to Nokia’s HERE Maps and HERE Drive+ navigtation service, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory and 7GB of free SkyDrive cloud storage.
