The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be the largest sports events in the world and offer a once-in-a-lifetime chance to showcase the UK at its best.

It is also a great opportunity for businesses of all sizes and sectors. You may already be planning how your business can take full advantage. However, like any large event, the Games will bring with them certain challenges.

It is possible that internet services may be slower during the Games due to an increased number of people accessing BBC iPlayer and other real time video streaming applications. The actual load that these services will place upon the UK internet infrastructure is unknown; however the huge peak in traffic seen for other sporting events leads us to anticipate a huge increase in data demand.

Internet providers have been planning for this anticipated increase and have put additional infrastructure in place to minimise disruption. However with the start of the Olympics this week, it is possible that you will experience a degradation of your internet service.

Spectrum Business Broadband has taken steps to ensure that business critical services will be prioritised over non-essential traffic. Everything will be done on our network to ensure that service disruption is kept to a minimum however until traffic reaches our network and after it passes through, we have no control over it and thus you may experience issues beyond our control.

Please also be aware that if you are using video streaming applications, you may see delays whilst other traffic is prioritised, and as streaming applications use a lot of data, they may cause you to exceed you monthly data download allocation as defined in the Fair Use Policy.
